A lot of time and effort goes into preparing for a move or for putting your items into storage. But one of the most important parts is ensuring that all of your possessions are properly packed up. How do you even start to prepare all your items for packing? As moving and storage experts with 25 years in the business, the Viking Moving team has put together some pre-packing tips to help you purge unnecessary items and keep organized as you prepare for moving and/or storage.

Pre-Packing: Before the Move

To organize your items while pre-packing, purge items that are no longer needed or wanted by donating, consigning, recycling, or disposing of them.
Order packing supplies such as boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, tape, and whatever else you need to keep your items secure and damage-free.
Designate an area in your home where you can organize your packed boxes.
If you need packing help, please contact us. The Viking Moving team is ready to help you with whatever you need; we are happy to help pack everything from your pantry to your china cabinet.
Label all boxes and enter into the “master book.” Every box should have a number and every number should have a list of contents. This way, you will know exactly where your possession are after the move and what box you need to open to get to your items.
Color code all boxes to represent different areas at your new location for easier unpacking. For example, color code all boxes with kitchen items with a green circle and all boxes with items for your living room with a red circle. When you get to your new location, you will not have to struggle to try and figure out where your boxes and items are meant to be placed.
